ABOUT US

Founded in 1997 and registered in 1998, NDA was created to serve the Northern Region of Ghana as a community, volunteer based, organisation working to assist poor, rural communities through provision of technical and financial support.  We create awareness on issues of concern to promote and improve the socio-economic wellbeing of people in these communities. In particular, we promote sustainable agricultural practices, basic health care, sustainable environment management practices, women's and girls' rights, good governance and poverty reduction strategies.

Since our foundation, NDA has grown and now runs development projects in deprived communities in six districts in the Northern Region of Ghana. Each district has a dedicated coordinator, all volunteers, who are NDA's local representatives.

By 2013, we had expanded into four more districts of Northern Ghana.

The majority of the projects are under GHC 30,000 (roughly $15,000) though we have been involved in larger scale projects in collaboration with other NGOs.

Our projects fall under the following categories:

  • Education

  • Income-Generating Activities

  • Vocational and Skill Training

  • Health and Nutrition

  • Water and Sanitation

  • Human Rights (particularly women's and children's rights)

  • Good Governance

  • Afforestation and Food Security Programmes

When choosing projects, we are receptive of what the community want most. All our projects are based heavily around community meetings, engaging with the traditional leaders of the community to gain an understanding of what help aid the community most needs.

Many projects also involve discussions on local radio show about the project, raising the profile of the work that is being carried as part of the project as well as informing people about NDA as an organisation.

Since our beginning, we have collaborated and developed partnerships with both local and international organizations that share a similar vision to NDA. These include district assemblies, CHRAJ, FIDA, NCCE, Tzedek, The Department of Social Welfare, The Irish Embassy & AusAID.
